TALKEETNA ROADHOUSE

TALKEETNA ROADHOUSE – Corner of Main St and C tweet – Talkeetna, AK

So glad we stopped.  The Roadhouse, built around 1917, is one of the oldest establishments still in operation on Main Street in “Beautiful Downtown Talkeetna.” The kitchen is open to the public (they also have lodgings) and are  famous for big breakfasts, hearty soups, homebaked breads and genuine frontier hospitality. The bakery produces all sorts of treats each day such as pies, a variety of cinnamon rolls, cookies, cakes, brownies and savory pasties.

The food is served community style.  Long tables that can accommodate 10 or so people.  Therefore, you may be sitting with strangers, which can get you conversing with others about their travels.

Tim and I stopped here for breakfast on the way to Wasilla, AK.  It was fantastic.  Sourdough hotcakes bigger than the plate, loaded with fresh blueberries, plain, or the fruit of the day.  The standard breakfast included scrambled eggs, potatoes, thick slices of bacon, your choice of toast or biscuit, hot beverage and a cold beverage.  Home made raspberry preserves and apple butter are complimentary condiments.  Absolutely delish!!!

Don’t overlook this one.  We totally enjoyed it.
