49TH STREET BREWING COMPANY

49TH STREET BREWING COMPANY –  Mile 248.4 –  George Parks Hwy –  Healy, AK

This was a great stop right off the highway on the road from Fairbanks to Denali.  It looks particularly funky when you pull into the dirt parking lot.  The first thing you see is the bus from the movie, “Into The Wild”, complete with memorabilia inside.  The picnic tables outside are kind of rickety.  Next is a large, tented porch where you may choose to  eat.  Once you enter the building, it is fantastic, with Alaskan style decor.  It is a brewery, and the beers made on the premises were really good.  Tim is a bit of a connoisseur when it comes to beer drinking.  I   feature myself as a foodie, and I can tell you the food was extremely delish!   I enjoyed the largest, most delicious Reuben I’ve ever had,  It was served with their house french fries – unlike any I’ve ever seen.  They may have used an apple slicing machine to cut the potatoes – not sure – but they were great.  I drank a specialty drink called “Hair Of The Bear”.  It was a very spicy Bloody Mary, with a float of stout, rimmed in celery salt, and delivered with condiments of salami, cheese, an olive, lemon, and a slice of bacon.

The staff is friendly and the food is the best – what are you waiting for?  Would I return?  You betcha!
